The maestro.

The straight six-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 530i, 525i, 523i.

The genius of BMW's High Precision Injection takes dynamic responsiveness to new heights. Variable multi-stage direct injection makes combustion quieter and more efficient. Performance and running smoothness are enhanced, while emissions and fuel consumption are reduced. The figures speak for themselves: the 530i has a top power output of 200 kW (272 hp) and maximum torque of 320 Nm at 2,750 rpm, but consumes just 7.7 litres per 100 km on average. The engine's unmistakable sound can't be conveyed by the figures.

Fuel consumption / CO2 emissions

Combined fuel consumption 7.3 to 8.2 l/100 km
CO2 emissions: 174 to 194 g/km

Further information about the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO2 emissions for new passenger automobiles can be obtained from The Passenger Car (Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emissions Information).

Power at your fingertips.

The six-speed sports automatic transmission in the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Take the power into your own hands with the six-speed sports automatic transmission. Choose automatic mode for supremely precise automatic gearshifts, or switch to manual mode for motorsports-style gear changes. Use the gearshift paddles mounted on the steering wheel or enjoy the precise feedback offered by the gear selector lever introduced exclusively for this special transmission. Pressing the Sports button makes the entire shift process even more dynamic.

Effortless precision.

Active Steering in the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Active Steering is an optional system that enhances steering precision, agility and driving comfort. An auxiliary electric motor modifies the steering angle as a function of road speed. At higher speeds, Active Steering makes it easier to keep the 5 Series comfortably on track. At medium speeds, steering becomes more direct, boosting agility. At slow speeds, such as when parking, the steering angle of the front wheels is greatest, increasing manoeuvrability.

Actively on course.

Dynamic Drive in the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Execute demanding steering manoeuvres with greater precision than ever before with Dynamic Drive, the active suspension control system. Active anti-roll bars on both axles reduce body roll to a minimum – even when taking bends at speed. Your rear-seat passengers enjoy a more comfortable ride, and you enjoy an unmatched level of steering accuracy and unerring control.

Asphalt magnet.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) on the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

The 5 Series Sedan is fitted with electronic chassis control systems that enhance safety and increase the pleasure of the driving experience. In critical situations (oversteering or understeering) Dynamic Stability Control decreases torque and brakes individual wheels as required. Within milliseconds, the vehicle is stabilised: DSC helps prevent loss of traction before the vehicle begins to skid. DSC includes Direct Traction Control (DTC), which allows increased wheel slip when a sportier driving style is desired.

Freedom to explore.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) on the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

DTC allows you to drive at the limits without fear of exceeding them. It increases wheel slip on the drive wheels in order to ensure optimum traction on any surface. This allows the behaviour of the BMW 5 Series Sedan to be controlled entirely by the driver, with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)system taking a back seat. Only in critical situations and at higher speeds does DSC intervene.

Balanced mix.

The lightweight chassis on the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

For any given component of a vehicle, there's a particular material which is ideally suited. That is why both aluminium and steel are used in the construction of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. Certain engine parts, the bonnet and the front-end structure including side walls are all made of aluminium. As well as reducing overall weight, this ensures an even distribution of weight between the front and rear axles: 50:50 axle load - a key factor in the outstanding agility of the BMW 5 Series

Power on demand.

xDrive - the intelligent all-wheel drive system on the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

In the BMW 525xi, 530xi, 525xd and 530xd, the intelligent all-wheel drive system xDrive ensures optimum tracking and excellent traction on all surfaces. For dynamic and agile driving on dry tarmac, xDrive distributes 40% of power to the front wheels and 60% to the rear wheels. If sensors detect a change in the road surface (for example, while driving in wintry conditions), xDrive responds instantly to redistribute power and counter any under- or oversteering.
